Sprinkler System Design

In order for any sprinkler system to work properly, it must be designed correctly. In its simplest form, a sprinkler system operates on water flow and water pressure. The key to a properly designed irrigation system is to ensure the amount of pressure delivered at the sprinkler head is sufficient to allow the sprinkler to do its job of delivering water.

As simple as it sounds, there are a number of variables and complexities to be considered. Christianson Lawn Irrigation design experts are trained in all the variables and complexities to ensure you have a properly designed sprinkler system.

Our lawn irrigation design services include:

  • Accurate measurement of your lawn and garden areas to define the coverage required
  • Finding the PSI (pounds per square inch) and GPM (gallons per minute) of your water source. These will vary based on whether you receive water from a water utility company or from a well. In either case, the PSI and the GPM are critical to know. The PSI represents the water pressure and the GPM represents the water flow.
  • Water loses pressure as it flows through the pipes. Our lawn irrigation experts will calculate and determine the pressure losses to be expected based on your unique environment and requirements.
  • Select the appropriate backflow preventer. If water pressure drops, the backflow preventer prevents contaminated water from entering your plumbing system.
  • Selection of the types and size of pipe to use
  • Selection of the types of valves required
  • Selection of the types of sprinkler heads for each specific application within the irrigation system
  • Identify and create the necessary zones
  • Layout the piping according the design
  • Adjust and balance the system
  • Place each sprinkler head and determine its unique GPM to ensure its proper coverage
  • Test system to ensure the proper amount of water is being distributed and the coverage has minimal overlap while delivering the appropriate amount of water to the designated areas.
